The commissioning process is a wonderful journey between client and maker.

The journey can start right here…

If you live nearby, I love to do a site visit and go over the details with you in person, it’s an important step in understanding your space and vision. If that’s not possible, we can easily connect through email or over the phone. A video call is also a great option if you'd like to walk me through the space and share your ideas.

There are times when I meet the customer at a craft event and the initial introductions and a basic outline of the customer’s needs are introduced. I always have one or two rugs on show and a basic portfolio of my designs. However, all of this can be achieved on-line by skipping over to my gallery and looking at the designs I have!

Once the final design has been selected, we move on to the exciting part, working out the colours. This stage is all about bringing your space and personal style into the piece. I usually ask for a sample, this could be a carpet swatch, curtain fabric, or even something small like a cushion cover, anything that helps communicate the colour palette you're aiming for. These references give me a solid foundation to create a custom shade card just for your rug.

The shade card is essentially a colour wrap, carefully curated to show all the tones that will be used and how they blend together. Many of my designs naturally involve colour gradients, so it's not unusual for a single rug to include up to forty subtly shifting shades. This allows the colours to flow seamlessly from one to the next, adding depth, richness, and harmony to the final piece.

To help you visualise everything clearly, I’ll post the shade card to you along with a detailed, to-scale drawing of the rug design, showing exactly how it will sit within your chosen dimensions. This step ensures we’re completely aligned before the weaving begins.

Once all the details are confirmed and you're happy with the design and colours, the commission process can begin. At this stage, I typically request a 25% deposit to secure the order.

When the rug is finished, you're more than welcome to collect it in person, or I can arrange for it to be delivered directly to your door.
